brussels - The Belgian police had to flee shots on Friday morning when armed asylum seekers turned against them at a trucker's parking lot along the highway. Two agents were injured.

During a preventive check on the parking lot of Groot-Bijgaarden, along the E40, they attacked the police with sticks, writes Het Nieuwsblad.

The parking lot is regularly in the news because intrusive asylum seekers try to climb in trucks towards England.

Five men were caught on Friday. They fled into the forest, but quickly returned with reinforcement. Forty men then attacked the police.

To get the situation under control, a shot was fired in the air, police spokesman Peter De Waele of the federal police confirmed to the newspaper.

Sixteen migrants have been arrested. It is the second incident in a short time. There have also been incidents in Antwerp.
