- Apple announced today that the worldwide community developers have earned over $ 70 billion since the launch of the App Store in 2008. Over the past 12 months, the number of downloads has already increased by more than 70 percent.

Customers discover new apps and games in the App Store every day. Think of hits like Pokémon GO and Super Mario Run, as well as other prominent titles like CancerAid, SPACE by THIX, Zones for Training with Exercise Intensity, Vanido, Ace Tennis and Havenly.

'People around the world love apps and our customers download them in record numbers,' said Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice Pesident Worldwide Marketing. 'A $ 70 billion revenue for developers is truly incredible. We are amazed at all the great new apps our developers make. We can not wait to see them again next week at our Worldwide Developers Conference. '

App Store developers around the world make apps for customers in 155 countries that improve their lives, transform business and shape culture. The categories 'Games' and 'Entertainment' yield the highest returns, but 'Lifestyle' and 'Health and Fitness' have grown by over 70 percent in the past year. 'Photo and video' is one of the fastest growing categories, with almost 90 percent growth.

The subscription business model, now available for all 25 app categories, increased the number of active paid subscriptions in the App Store by 58 percent year-on-year. Customers subscribe to all kinds of services, including famous names like Netflix and Hulu, but also newcomers like Tastemade, a modern mobile cooking network, and photo editing apps like Over and Enlight.
