Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a nearly 3000-year-old Mayan city named Los Abuelos in northern Guatemala. The city, located in the Petén department, is believed to be one of the oldest and most important ceremonial centers of the early Mayan civilization.
Historical Significance
Los Abuelos is situated approximately 21 kilometers from the well-known ruins of Uaxactun. The Mayan culture, originating around 2000 BC, flourished between 400 and 900 AD, spanning parts of South Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, and Honduras.
