las vegas - An American man who threw himself at a female judge during his trial has been sentenced to 26 to 65 years in prison. The attack, captured in a viral video, shocked many.

An American man who threw himself at a female judge during his trial has been sentenced to 26 to 65 years in prison. The 31-year-old man attacked the judge in January as she was about to sentence him for another offense. The assault was captured on video that went viral.

The video shows the man lashing out wildly as an officer, court staff, and lawyers tried in vain to restrain him. The judge was left shocked but physically unharmed, while the officer had to be treated in the hospital.

Prior to the attack, the man told the judge, "I know I'm not a bad person," and to everyone present, "I believe that you all know I'm not a bad person."

His attorney stated on Tuesday that his client has been struggling with a serious mental illness for most of his life. At the time of the attack, he was not on medication. "He deeply regrets it," the attorney said. "The first time he saw the whole video, his reaction was very visceral. It was almost as if he wanted to vomit. He called himself a monster. 'Am I that? Did I do that? I didn't want to hurt that woman so much,' he said."

Despite his remorse, it was not enough to sway the judge. She referred to the attack on her colleague as "an attack on the judiciary" and told the man, "While there's no doubt that you have a mental illness, doctors do not doubt that you know the difference between right and wrong."
