Again many deaths from quake in Pacific Ring of Fire

port moresby - In a new earthquake in Papua New Guinea, at least 25 people were killed in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. According to the authorities, the quake had a strength of 6.7 and took place in a remote mountain area in the province of Hela. Since last week, more than a hundred people have died in earthquakes in the area and at least five hundred wounded have fallen.

The exact extent of the damage from the quakes is still unknown. The affected area is more than 500 kilometers away from the capital Port Moresby and almost all communication links have been broken. Roads are also impassable.

Papua New Guinea lies on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where different tectonic plates collide. It is one of the geologically most active areas on earth.
