Afghanistan joins WTO

geneva - Afghanistan Friday as 164th member joined the World Trade Organization. This is a period of twelve years which was negotiated on the accession requirements for the country successfully completed the WTO announced.

With the accession Afghanistan commits itself to the agreements on free international trade that apply within the WTO. Afghanistan hopes to attract more foreign investors and to stimulate its own exports.

The WTO is currently conducting negotiations with yet nineteen countries for accession, including Iran, Iraq, Serbia, Lebanon, Libya and Uzbekistan. The WTO was established in 1995 and serves as a platform for negotiating agreements on free international trade. In addition, the WTO can be a judge in conflicts that Member States on trade barriers.
