Action against migrants on French mountain pass
grenoble - Approximately one hundred supporters of the militant right-wing movement Generatie Identitair occupied the col de l'Echelle on Saturday to stop migrants who tried to enter France via the 1,762-meter high pass.
The French newspaper Dauphiné Liberé reported that, in addition to French, Italians, Danes, Austrians, English and Germans also participated in the campaign.
The col de l'Echelle is located six kilometers from the border with Italy. The pass is popular with refugees who want to make the crossing from France to Italy. The activists pushed in blue had made a plastic fence. They also provided two helicopters that flew above the pass. About ten migrants who wanted to travel across the col from Italy to France would have turned around.
The prefecture of the Hautes-Alpes department said it was keeping a close eye on the situation.
