brussels - The controversial Belgian-Lebanese publicist Dyab Abou Jahjah is taking part in the municipal elections in Belgium with a new political party in October and the parliamentary elections a year later. The party gets the name 'be.one', as it was announced at a press conference in Brussels.
The 46-year-old Abou Jahjah made a new party in May last year, among other things to improve the position of migrants. The politician founded the Arab-European League (AEL) in Antwerp at the beginning of this century. He said in 2003 at the launch of the Dutch AEL department for introduction of Sharia. A year later he expressed support for the killing of Western soldiers in Iraq.
A broadcast of Zomergasten from the VPRO in which he was a guest last year attracted almost half a million viewers. The Belgian newspaper De Standaard resigned last year from Abou Jahjah as a columnist because he did not take sufficient distance from an attack in Jerusalem that killed Israeli soldiers.
