Recent conflicts and violence in countries like Haiti, Lebanon, Myanmar, and Ukraine have further increased the number of displaced individuals in 2024, following a record high in 2023. Sudan leads with 11.6 million displaced people, the highest ever recorded in a single country.
According to IDMC director Alexandra Bilak, these latest figures highlight that internal displacement is not just a humanitarian crisis but a significant developmental and political challenge that requires more attention than it currently receives.
