seoul - The death toll in the plane crash at Muan airport in the south of South Korea has risen to at least 47, according to firefighters on the scene.

A plane belonging to the Korean carrier Jeju Air was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members from the Thai capital Bangkok to Muan airport.

Footage shows the plane landing without landing gear, crashing into a wall, and catching fire. The accident is said to have been caused by 'bird strike, which caused the landing gear to malfunction,' according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

South Korean authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.

Rescuers managed to free at least two people alive from the plane.
