aix-les-bains, france - Approximately 1500 people stranded in their cars on the French highway N90 after rockfalls have been accommodated in emergency locations.

Rockfalls Cause Chaos on French Highway

About 1500 individuals found themselves stuck on the French highway N90 after three large rockfalls occurred on Saturday morning, just north of Moûtiers in the Savoie department. This resulted in a complete standstill of traffic.

Emergency shelters were set up in various locations in the department, including Aix-les-Bains and Albertville, to assist the stranded travelers who had been stuck in their cars for hours. An emergency plan was activated by the prefecture to address the situation.

With around 32,000 vehicles heading towards the ski resorts in the region on Saturday and an additional 15,000 vehicles expected on Sunday, the prefecture is redirecting traffic through alternative routes to destinations like Val-Thorens.
