abeche, chad - France has evacuated Abeche Military Base in Chad following the termination of the cooperation agreement between the two countries.

France has recently evacuated Abeche Military Base in Chad after the cooperation agreement between the two countries came to an end. The handover ceremony took place at the base and was attended by several French and Chadian officials.

In his speech at the ceremony, Abeche Governor Bachar Ali Souleymane stated, 'This historic decision is a proof of our confidence in Chad's defense and security forces.'

Following the ceremony, the agreement for the transfer of Abeche Military Base from French troops to Chadian forces was signed by both parties.

Out of the 120 French soldiers stationed at the base, 90 have left the country, while the remaining soldiers are expected to depart by January 31st.

The Chad government had announced its decision to cancel the agreement aimed at strengthening defense and security cooperation with France signed on November 28, 2024.

Subsequently, it was reported that French warplanes and military units began to leave the country.

France had previously handed over Faya Military Base to the Chadian army on December 26.

It is planned that the Adji Kossei Base in the capital city of N'Djamena will also be transferred to the Chadian army by January 31st, marking the complete end of France's military presence in Chad.
