The chance that the five missing victims of the devastating mudslide in California will still be found alive is getting smaller.
The devastating mudslides caused by rainfall in southern California have claimed seventeen lives. According to the sheriff of Santa Barbara County, at least seventeen people are missing. Because of the masses of debris and mud that came down from the slopes on Tuesday, a hundred houses were destroyed.
Heavy rainfall in the south of the US state of California has killed at least thirteen people. Streets of the coastal village of Montecito, north of Los Angeles, were buried by mudslides and debris, reports the Los Angeles Times. Another twenty-five people were injured.
Due to the ongoing forest fires in California, part of the city of Santa Barbara is now also under threat. The California authorities ordered Saturday for new evacuations of this area, writes the LA Times. Residents of the hilly region around Montecito and Summerland, where many rich people live, are advised to seek a safe haven as soon as possible.
California pulls out all the stops to fight the relentless fires in the state. In the meantime, more than 5,800 firefighters from several states are active. They suffer a lot from the strong wind.
