Young politicians from the Bronx provide surprise

The 28-year-old left Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from the Bronx gave a resounding surprise in Democratic primaries in New York.

The loss of Crowley is seen as a political earthquake. Incumbent politicians in New York are often not even challenged in primaries and automatically re-elected. Ocasio-Cortez was the first challenger for Crowley within the party in fourteen years. The Puerto Rican origin candidate won with 57.75 percent, American media reported.

Crowley was in the race for a prominent position in Washington. His name was mentioned, among other things, as a possible new Democratic party leader in the House of Representatives.

In the United States there are hundreds of primaries in the run-up to parliamentary elections, among other things. Then Ocasio-Cortez faces the Republican Anthony Pappas. She goes to a parliamentary seat for a constituency that covers parts of the Bronx and Queens, where many minorities live. In the Democratic Party, the surprising profit of 'the socialist' Ocasio-Cortez has been shocked.
