Yet stricter border controls Brenner

Austria still ordered stricter border controls at the Brenner Pass, the border with Italy.

Austria feared an influx of migrants that would grow strongly in traveling through Italy Europe because the route through the Balkans is almost closed. With stricter border controls Vienna wanted to keep power out. According to Sobotka, the number of asylum seekers, however, declined by more intensive inspections by Italy, which not required in Austria.

Especially Italy criticized the Austrian border plans. Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said the plans,, shameless'.
