The late anti-apartheid activist Winnie Mandela was both loved and reviled in his own country.

Especially the death of 'Stompie' Seipei, a fourteen-year-old black ANC activist who was found killed in a ditch in 1989, has done her much harm. The judge ruled that Winnie Mandela was aware of the abduction and maltreatment of Stompie by her bodyguards. On appeal she came off with a fine.
