VNG gives officials tips for ransomware

The Dutch Municipalities Association (VNG) provides officials with various tips to prevent problems with ransomware.

Some municipalities including Ridderkerk, Barendrecht and Albrandswaard have put their e-mail traffic out of precaution. They want to prevent them from being hit by the ransomware attack that began Friday, and are afraid they will help spread the digital virus.

The municipalities quietly e-mail traffic on their own initiative. The VNG has not sent a central call to the municipalities in the Netherlands.

More generally, the Information Security Service (IBD) of the VNG provides officials with tips for blocking private mail at work, switching macros in disable documents, and filtering incoming emails and scanning executable files.
