Very expensive job: 3200 years old statue Ramses II moved

A 3200 year old statue of the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II was moved to the atrium of the new Great Egyptian Museum in Cairo on Thursday.

To move the statue, the road surface was treated with special material to prevent it from collapsing under the weight of the 83-tonne image. During the operation, engineers from the army were involved.

The image was in a storage room since 2006. Before that time it was on Ramsesplein, but for fear of damage caused by, among other things, exhaust emissions, the authorities decided to remove it there.
