Vaccine against AIDS step closer

The pharmaceutical company Johnson \u0026 amp; Johnson launches a large-scale test of an AIDS vaccine.

The research builds on, among other things, an extensive test that was held in Thailand in 2009. The result was described as encouraging at the time: the number of infections fell by 31 percent.

Johnson \u0026 amp; Johnson speaks of progress in the (preventive) fight against AIDS. With the new research, the pharmaceutical company aims for a 'score' of more than 50 percent. The vaccination consists of two parts. The first tackles the immune system and the second strengthens the body's response.

Although AIDS has changed from a fatal disease to a chronic condition, effective and direct control by vaccination is seen as the ultimate goal. Worldwide, 37 million people worldwide are living with HIV, the virus that can lead to AIDS.
