US wants independent Rohingya research

The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called for an independent investigation into alleged human rights violations against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar on Wednesday.

Since late August around 600,000 Rohingya fled from Myanmar to neighboring Bangladesh. That happened after the army was acting hard after attacks by Rohingya insurgents. Tillerson spoke at a joint press conference with Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi about 'horrendous scenes'.

Refugees accused Myanmarian soldiers and civilians earlier of killing, rape and burning of villages. The army suggested this week that its own investigation showed that there was no problem. Human rights organizations find that conclusion unbelievable.
