US want to check social media for visas

The US government is planning to subject the petitioners' activities to social media tightly when applying for visa.

The plans are part of President Donald Trump's policy to closely monitor personal data of visa applicants for security reasons. This should, among other things, prevent illegal immigration. For example, in the future visa applications will be accompanied by all used names and accounts on social media, but also from email addresses, telephone numbers and international travel data in the past five years.

The proposal still has to be submitted to the Office for Management and Budget, which is the responsibility of President Trump.
