US visa to Syrian filmmakers

The makers of the documentary White Helmets, on voluntary rescue workers in Syria, on Friday announced that they want to travel anyway to the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles.

Raed Saleh, the leader of the White Helmets, and filmmaker Khaled Khatib both received a visa. 'We remain cautious with regard to the actual physical entry into the country. So far, everything was rather vague, but we have been told that they are welcome, 'says producer Joanna Natasegara. 'White Helmets are the most inspiring people there. '

The documentary has been nominated in the short documentary category. An insight is given into the White Helmets daily lives. 'It's important that people understand that people live in Syria that they want the same things: peace, family life without the fear of bombs,' said Khatib.
