US police finds thirteen chained children

Thirteen neglected persons aged 2 to 29 were freed from a house by the police in California.

The parents of the children, a 57-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, have been arrested and are being prosecuted for torture, the authorities said on Monday.

Agents made the discovery after a seventeen-year-old girl escaped from the house in Perris, a town about 113 kilometers east of Los Angeles. She had warned the police with a found mobile phone, reported the Riverside County sheriff's office.

'In their opinion, officers found twelve children in the house, but to their dismay they found that seven of them were actually adults,' the police said. The victims were all severely neglected and malnourished.
