US offering arms supplies to Kurds in Syria

The United States will no longer provide weapons to fighters of the Kurdish YPG in Syria.

Ankara sees the YPG as an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers Party PKK. The US has previously supplied the YPG with weapons to help defeat Islamic State in the Syrian city of Raqqa. US Secretary of Defense Mattis in June opened the possibility that Washington will continue to provide the Kurdish fighters with weapons.

In the conversation, the Turkish head of state raised the displeasure about the arms deliveries. 'Trump said very clearly that he had ordered that he no longer supply weapons,' according to the Turkish Foreign Minister.
