US consider additional sanctions against North Korea

Twenty countries have announced, after consultation on the North Korea crisis, that they are considering imposing additional unilateral sanctions on the country beyond the sanctions of the UN Security Council resolution.

The US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, emphasized that all countries must work together to prevent ships from circumventing the current sanctions. He said that once again the consequences should follow for North Korea if the regime exhibits new aggression.

During the consultations on the North Korean nuclear weapons program, important countries such as China and Russia were absent. It has also been agreed to support the efforts of North Korea and South Korea to enter into a dialogue, in the hope that it will lead to a reduction in tensions.
