US and South Korea agree on missile shield

The United States and South Korea have agreed on the deployment of a US missile shield in the country.

US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis is in South Korea for a two-day visit to Seoul where he talks with various government managers. He spoke also with his South Korean counterpart Han Min-koo.

'The two have reached an agreement to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD). The defense system is scheduled to be operational within the year. The missile shield will only be used in defense of North Korean missile attacks, 'said the South Korean Defense Ministry said in a statement.
