UNICEF Reopens Schools in eastern Mosul

In the east of Mosul, which was recaptured by Islamic State, on Tuesday with support from UNICEF thirty schools reopened.

'After that nightmare, this is a crucial time for the children in Mosul. They receive their right to education and the hope for a better future back, 'said Peter Hawkins, executive director of UNICEF Iraq. He expects the coming weeks to flood the classrooms of another forty schools, where local authorities have determined that there are no booby traps and unexploded ordnance are present. It involves a total of 40 000 pupils.

The Iraqi government confirmed Monday that the last pockets of resistance from IS are cleaned up east of the Tigris. The army command announced last week already known the eastern part of Mosul again under control.
