UNHCR: 220 migrants drowned in Libya

In recent days, about 220 people drowned off the coast of Libya in an effort to reach Europe.

The statement states that only five people were rescued from a ship that had capsized with about a hundred migrants on board. Elsewhere on the Mediterranean Sea, a rubber raft sank with 130 people, of whom about seventy were killed. Relief workers found a boat on Wednesday, of which the crew members said that at least fifty other passengers had disappeared in the waves.

'UNHCR is stunned by the ever-growing number of refugees and migrants leaving life at sea and calling urgently for international action to improve the rescue work by anyone'.
