UN will study violence Cizre

The United Nations will investigate allegations that Turkish security forces have used brute force against the Kurdish population in the Cizre region.

Al-Hussein called on the Turkish government to the reports of violations against the civilian population to finally verify and conduct a thorough investigation. So far, Ankara requests from the UN to gather information on site firsthand ignored.

The UN rely on witness statements about the deployment of the Turkish army against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) between mid-December and March 1, when a curfew was lifted in Cizre. The government must also protect citizens in anti-terrorist operations and to respect international law, which prohibits extrajudicial executions, torture and willful destruction of property, said Al-Hussein.
