UN: killing abused for propaganda

The United Nations has criticized demonstrators who left behind seventeen at the UN headquarters in the Central African Republic.

Demonstrators left the bodies Wednesday at the headquarters of the UN mission in Bangui. According to protesters, it was the remains of civilians who had died during battles between UN soldiers and armed gangs.

The UN spokesperson denied that accusation and said that it concerned the bodies of armed criminals. 'They shot our peacekeepers and we fired back,' he said. 'Some people use bodies to claim that we have killed civilians. '

The peacekeepers recently started an operation to disarm armed groups in PK5, a Muslim enclave in the predominantly Christian capital of Bangui. Residents had complained about extortion and violence according to the UN.
