UN demands cease-fire in Syria

The General Assembly of the UN on Friday adopted a resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire demanded in Syria.

The resolution was approved by 122 countries, while 22 countries voted against. 36 countries took no vote on the proposals submitted by Canada. The resolution is not binding, but does have political weight.

Whether the mood will get something remains to be seen. 'Expect this or other causes dramatic turnaround is not realistic,' for example, explained the UN ambassador from Russia, an ally of the Assad government in Syria.
