Tsunami threat after the Great Ocean quake

A major earthquake occurred near the New Caledonia archipelago east of the Australian coast.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports that coastal areas up to 300 kilometers away from the epicenter must take into account tidal waves. The warning applies, among other things, to New Caledonia and Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean.

The authorities in Australia and New Zealand announce that they have not issued a tsunami warning.
