Tour postponed monumental Aïda year

The world tour of a monumental performance of Verdi's opera Aida led by tenor Plácido Domingo (76) has been postponed due to technical problems.

It appears yet more difficult than thought to the immense, 60 meter wide stage to build the stadiums. The opera would be performed for the first time in May in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, but that has been postponed to next year. The premiere is now scheduled for June 9, 2018 in Vienna.

The Spanish tenor Domingo is artistic director of the event and the performances will be largely self-directing. He wants to win new opera lovers with the project.
