Thousands of Pakistanis in hospital to smog

In several Pakistani cities, a suffocating layer of smog has been hanging for two weeks now.

Health authorities said Friday that patients suffered from respiratory problems, allergic reactions and other health problems caused by the polluted air.

The limited road view resulted in hundreds of extra traffic accidents in recent weeks. As a result, fourteen people died and certainly four hundred injured.

The air pollution is often worse at the beginning of winter, because the particulate matter can not spread into the atmosphere through the colder air. The air is heavy from the exhaust gases of diesel engines, coal plants and industrial emissions.
