The Berlin Wall has now been demolished for as long as it stood there

Today, Monday 5 February 2018, the Berlin Wall was demolished as long as the wall stood: 10,316 days.

Built in 1961 and demolished in 1989, the Wall divided the German city in two for 10. 316 days: 28 years, two months and 26 days. In an online special, the Berliner Zeitung tells many Berliners about the impact of 'Die Wende' on their lives.

In 1961, the Wall had to put an end to the drainage of the GDR. Many East Berliners sought salvation in the West. On the night of 9 to 10 November 1989, the Berlin Wall, the stone symbol of the Cold War, fell between the communist East and the free West. 138 people died during flight actions.
