Thai football players still without a trace

Rescue workers in Thailand are approaching the spot where a youth football team may be stuck in a flooded cave system.

The rescue operation has been going on for a week and a half and is difficult. Divers must extend a passage of about 100 meters because they do not fit through it now. The heavy rainfall also made the search operation more difficult. Divers had great difficulty navigating in the muddy water. The water level decreased in recent days thanks to the use of pumps.

The teenagers from eleven to sixteen years old and their trainer (25 meters) disappeared on June 23 during a visit to the cave complex. They have not given a sign of life since then. Experts state that young people can survive days without food, but it is unclear whether they have access to potable water.

The huge search dominates the news in Thailand. More than a thousand rescue workers are involved in the operation. These include experts from the US, Great Britain and Japan.
