Syrian refugee selfie-stop action against Facebook

A young Syrian refugee who became famous for a selfie with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, stops his lawsuit against Facebook.

His lawyer said Monday also know that the process can also be dangerous for the family of his 19-year-old client in Syria and Germany. Anas M. fled in 2015 to Germany. He went with Merkel last year the picture when the chancellor visited a refugee camp.

The Syrian later discovered that the photo was fully exploited by social media. He was, among other things falsely linked to several attacks and fire stabbing of a homeless man. It often involved attempts to besmirch the reputation of Merkel and refugees.

A judge ruled earlier this month that Facebook slander by third parties can not be faulted. The Syrian had been able to appeal. But the costs are too much for him.
