Syrian army recaptures base in Idlib

The Syrian army has made a strategically important conquest in the northwest of the country.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, this happened with air support from Russian aircraft. The Syrian army had just been pushed back by shelling by al-Qaeda fighters and rebels. The militants had received the Abu Dhuhur base in Idlib in September 2015.

Idlib, which borders Turkey, is the last province in Syria that is almost completely under control of rebels. With an offensive the army managed to establish a bridgehead this month.
