Sweden and North Korea finalize discussions

The Swedish and North Korean Foreign Ministers concluded their talks after three days.

The North Korean Ri Yong-ho arrived in Sweden on Thursday for a meeting with his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallström. This led to speculation that the visit served as a basis for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The Swedes stressed during the talks that North Korea should dismantle its nuclear weapons and missile programs, the Swedish Foreign Office announced. There was also talk about possibilities to put a peaceful end to the conflict over the nuclear ambitions of Pyongyang.

Sweden represents the interests of the US in North Korea. The Northern European country is seen as a possible host for the summit meeting between Trump and Kim.
