South Korean becomes new chef Interpol

South Korean Kim Jong-yang will be the new chairman of Interpol.

Kim is the successor of the Chinese Meng Hongwei. It disappeared earlier this year during a visit to China. Later it turned out that Meng had been arrested there on suspicion of corruption.

The election of South Korean Kim is a disappointment for Russia. The Russian Vice President of Interpol Aleksander Prokopchuk was the favorite to win the largely ceremonial top function. Critics feared that the Kremlin would abuse its appointment.
