South Korea raises matters for comfort girls

South Korea will not try to open a deal with Japan about the so-called comfort women.

South Korea promised to equal the compensation offered by Japan of converted 7.4 million euros and to see what the money could be used for, the Japanese news agency Kyodo reports.

The deal from 2015 was meant to finalize the case, but a new South Korean government later criticized the negotiations. In the agreement, the compensation was agreed and South Korea promised to remove a statue of a consolation girl from the Japanese embassy in Seoul.

Of the many women who have been abused by Japanese soldiers, 47 are still alive.
