Soldier is first to get the penis and scrotum transplanted

A team of doctors successfully performed a penile and scrotal transplant in Baltimore with an American soldier.

Johns Hopkins University surgeons in Baltimore, Maryland, performed the operation last month on a soldier who was injured in a bombing in Afghanistan. This reports BBC.

The doctors used a penis, scrotum and part of the abdominal wall of a donor. The testes have not been transplanted due to ethical considerations. According to the doctors, the patient may soon also use the sexual organ for sexual purposes.

The operation lasted for fourteen hours and was performed by a team of eleven surgeons. The anonymous soldier stated through a statement that he was happy with the result: 'When I woke up after the operation, I finally felt better. '
