Snow chaos: part of Bavaria declared disaster area

The southern German Miesbach has been declared a 'disaster area' by the authorities because of the continuing snowfall and disruption of public life.

Schools are closed, according to the board of the region it is too dangerous to go to school. Many roads are closed, pavements and hiking trails are no longer free of snow because priority is given to roadways. Because of the heavy snow cover branches break off easily and that can lead to dangerous situations. Local media speak of snow chaos.
