Slovak Prime Minister ready to resign

The Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has offered to resign.

In the Central European country unrest arose after the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée. Citizens took to the streets en masse to explain their dissatisfaction. One of the three government parties threatened to step out of the coalition if no agreement was reached on early elections.

The prime minister tried to defuse the political crisis on Wednesday by resigning. He does, however, set conditions. Fico wants the president to allow his SMER party to designate a successor.
