Six babies died in hospital Paramaribo

At the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP), six premature babies died in recent weeks as a result of bacterial contamination.

A preliminary investigation by the hospital has shown that the bacterium has infected the children via medicines. In response to this conclusion, the hospital has immediately taken over the drug preparation by the pharmacy.

According to a doctor / microbiologist of the AZP, it is the bacterium Serratia Marcescens. This does not fall under the group of hospital bacteria.
