Shopkeepers fear US for Christmas shopping

American retailers are already worried about Christmas shopping because of the import duties on Chinese products.

If President Donald Trump's threat of imposing a further $ 200 billion on Chinese import duties on top of the $ 34 billion of new duties on Chinese imports, then the middle class is a big victim of the trade war, according to the retailers' interests.

'Retailers have already made their purchases for the Christmas period,' says David French of the National Retail Federation. 'If the products have not been imported before the new levies come into effect, this will lead to higher prices, less spending and a stroke for consumer confidence. We are very concerned about this. ''

New import duties could also apply to (sports) shoes, clothing, smartphones and even toys.
