Senior citizen must save Malaysias opposition

The political opposition in Malaysia has found the 92-year-old former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad prepared to go for the election campaign.

The incumbent prime minister Najib Razak is embroiled in a corruption scandal. Despite the allegations against him, opinion investigations up to now showed that Razak presumably would win the elections.

However, the opposition parties Keadilan Rakyat and UMNO have joined forces after a lot of bickering. The permanent leader of the Keadilan Rakyat, Anwar Ibrahim, is currently serving a five year prison sentence for sodomy. The very old Mahathir Mohamad must now try to get the job done, according to The Guardian.

Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister from 1981 to 2003.
