Senegalese troops pull direction Gambia

Senegalese troops draw Wednesday to the border with Gambia.

Senegal is like other West African countries for military intervention in response to the refusal by the Gambian President Yahya Jammeh to resign. He lost the presidential election in December, but after 22 years in power to have been struggling to clear the field.

Jammeh seized as a military power in 1994 and then as president three times reelected. But he lost early December Adama Barrow, who resides in Senegal. The term of office runs Jammeh Thursday off and Barrow should be inaugurated.

Gambia is a narrow and small country along the banks of the river. It is surrounded by the much larger Senegal. In the eighties, the two countries formed a confederation (Senegambia).
