Senate Poland agrees with controversial reform

The Polish Senate approved a controversial law on Friday on Saturday to replace the Supreme Court judges.

On Friday there were tens of thousands of people in Poland to protest against the decision. The opposition finds the bill of the government party PiS void of independent jurisprudence and undermine democracy.

There is pressure from the various sides on the president to stop the reform and to veto it. For example, the European Union has threatened with sanctions and has been strongly criticized by international lawyers. The first president of the Supreme Court has an appointment with Duda on Monday to discuss the reform of the case law.
