Senate destroys Trumps state of emergency

The US Senate wants the state of emergency raised by President Donald Trump on the southern border to be lifted.

It is the first time that Congress has reversed the declaration of a state of emergency by a president, reports The New York Times. Trump can still veto that decision and, he says, intends to do so. He proclaimed a state of emergency to access billions of dollars outside of Congress to finance a wall on the border with Mexico.
